PM Anwar Launches PADU Database

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today launched the Central Database Hub or PADU (Pangkalan Data Utama) initiative, which is expected to help ensure more efficient delivery of subsidies.
PADU, which opens for registration today, will remain open for three months for Malaysians to verify and update their socio-economic data.
The system aims to be the most comprehensive database established by the government. Anwar said it will also ensure a fairer distribution of targeted subsidies, adding that the affluent will end up benefitting the most from subsidies if its delivery is not digitalised.
“I ask those who are opposing this… Who are you trying to defend? The foreigners? The wealthiest?,” he said at the launch at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Anwar also said PADU is in line with the country’s efforts to digitalise its systems and to reduce costs and wastage.
PADU is slated for integration with MyDigital ID, the national digital identification system, in the future.
