KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 5 – Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan is likely to be suspended for six months from Dewan Rakyat for allegedly making unfounded claims of corruption against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week.

Action against the Bersatu MP will be done through a motion tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi instead of being referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee.

The motion was listed in the Order Papers in Parliament and is likely to be tabled by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at about noon Tuesday (March 5) after the Oral Question Time.

Last Wednesday, Wan Saiful made reference during his debate on the motion of thanks on the Royal Address, alluding His Majesty and Anwar.

“Corruption means abuse of power and he who abuses his power meets with His Majesty every week before the Cabinet meeting,” Wan Saiful allegedly said.

Under the motion, Ahmad Zahid said that Wan Saiful had accused Anwar of abusing his power including making reference to His Majesty.

In 2009, then DAP Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo was suspended for a year for contempt of the House after alleging that then deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was involved in a murder case.

The suspension came after the Dewan Rakyat voted for a motion against him.

In 2013, former PKR Padang Serai MP N. Surendran was suspended from the Dewan Rakyat for six months for allegedly insulting former speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia outside the House.

He was suspended through a motion.
